(NYSE: KR) released its much-anticipated holiday film, "Operation: Gingerbread," spotlighting the spirit of homecoming and the importance of family during the festive season. This year’s film not only serves as a tribute to loved ones reuniting for the holidays but also recognizes the invaluable contributions of military service members and their families.

She emphasized the film’s intention to honor the families that make every holiday memorable and the sacrifices made by service members that inspire us all.

"Operation: Gingerbread" features a determined young girl who rallies her family and friends to bake and decorate a uniquely shaped gingerbread cookie. As the narrative unfolds, a special family member’s return home for the holidays reveals the significance of the cookie's shape, beautifully illustrating the message that holidays are sweeter when shared with loved ones.

The film incorporates Kroger’s beloved Krojis characters, adding a delightful and whimsical touch to the heartfelt story. It was created with the personal insights of several Kroger associates who are veterans, ensuring that the depiction of a service member's homecoming resonates authentically with viewers.

Kroger's dedication to the military community extends beyond the holiday film. The company proudly holds the title of the largest cumulative donor to the United Service Organizations (USO), having contributed over $44 million throughout the organization’s 84-year history. This year alone, Kroger donated an additional $1 million to the USO to further its mission of enhancing the well-being of troops and their families.

Additionally, Kroger has hired more than 50,000 veterans over the past decade across various sectors, including stores, technology, and logistics. To honor their service on Veteran's Day, Kroger Family of Stores is offering a 10% discount to veterans and current service members, demonstrating the company's appreciation for those who have served.

The film's creation involved significant contributions from veteran associates, who helped refine various elements from the Krojis' uniforms to the emotional family reunion depicted in the story. Amanda Mitchell, a veteran and service owner for the Contact Center of Excellence at Kroger, expressed hope that the film resonates with viewers, emphasizing the joy of being together during the holidays.
