1. A New Era of Mobility

On December 12, 2025, WeRide, a leading autonomous driving technology company, and Uber Technologies Inc. announced the official launch of their Robotaxi passenger service in Dubai, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of urban mobility. This innovative service, accessible through the Uber app, is set to redefine transportation options for residents and tourists alike in one of the UAE's most popular metropolitan hubs.

2. Service Details

Starting today, users can book rides in WeRide’s autonomous vehicles in key areas of Dubai, specifically Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah, which are known for their tourist attractions and proximity to public beaches. Riders can select the ‘Autonomous’ option on the Uber app to be matched with a WeRide Robotaxi. The fleet management services for these autonomous vehicles will be provided by Tawasul, ensuring a streamlined operation.

This launch is the culmination of a collaborative pilot program initiated earlier this year, following an announcement of the partnership in April 2025. The pilot phase has allowed for comprehensive testing, ensuring a safe transition to fully autonomous mobility. Notably, the initial service will include a vehicle specialist on board to enhance safety and reliability, laying the groundwork for a fully driverless commercial service slated for early 2026.

3. Aligning with Dubai’s Vision

Dubai is experiencing rapid growth, with over 4 million residents and a remarkable increase in shared mobility. In 2024, the city recorded a staggering 153 million trips across various transport modes, with shared mobility users rising by 28% compared to the previous year. The launch of the Robotaxi service aligns with the Emirate's ambitious goal of achieving 25% autonomous journeys by 2030, effectively responding to the increasing demand for modern transportation solutions.

Jennifer Li, CFO and Head of International at WeRide, emphasized the significance of this development: “Our progress in Dubai is enabled by our autonomous driving technology that has been tested and validated worldwide. We are expanding rapidly across the Middle East and globally, driven by our vision to deploy tens of thousands of Robotaxis by 2030.”

4. Uber's Commitment to the Future of Mobility

Sarfraz Maredia, Global Head of Autonomous at Uber, expressed excitement about the new service, stating: "As the world’s largest hybrid network of human drivers and AVs, Uber is building the future of transportation. This launch in Dubai is a testament to our ongoing commitment to the UAE's vision for the future of mobility."

The introduction of Robotaxis in Dubai not only enhances Uber's operational footprint in the Middle East but also reinforces the UAE’s position as a leader in autonomous mobility. This initiative further supports the broader strategic plan of both companies to scale their operations to thousands of Robotaxis in the region over the coming years.

5. The Road Ahead

With approximately 150 autonomous vehicles currently deployed in the Middle East, over 100 of which are Robotaxis, WeRide is well-positioned to cater to the growing demand for autonomous transportation. As we step into this new era of mobility, the partnership between WeRide and Uber is set to pave the way for innovative transportation solutions that promise to transform urban travel in Dubai and beyond.

As the global landscape shifts towards automation and smart mobility solutions, this collaboration highlights the commitment of both WeRide and Uber to lead the charge in autonomous innovation while supporting the aspirations of cities like Dubai.
