JetBlue Airways and Partners Announce Exciting Revamp of JFK Terminal 5

The proposed redesign of Terminal 5 will include the addition of over 40 new concessions along with various amenities such as art installations and a redesigned center concourse inspired by the tranquility of New York's iconic parks. These improvements are expected to begin rolling out in 2025, with full completion anticipated by the end of 2026.

Marty St. George, President of JetBlue, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This isn’t just about new dining and shopping—it’s about bringing the energy of New York into the terminal.” The enhancements aim to create a uniquely New York atmosphere, making Terminal 5 a centerpiece for travelers.

In an effort to elevate the customer experience, the terminal will prioritize locally-owned businesses. The plan includes more than 18 new local food and beverage options, allowing travelers to indulge in authentic New York flavors. This initiative aligns with the Port Authority’s broader $19 billion overhaul of JFK Airport, designed to position it as a leading global gateway.

“Creating a uniquely New York sense of place at JFK through the additions of iconic local concessions, art, and design will make this terminal a memorable part of the customer journey through our region,” stated Rick Cotton, Executive Director of the Port Authority.

Terminal 5 will also host an impressive collection of over 30 works by New York-based artists. This initiative aims to transform the terminal into a cultural hub, making it a must-visit destination for travelers. The redesigned center concourse will feature lush greenery, park benches, and spaces for interactive events and live performances, further enhancing the New York experience for passengers.

The project is poised to deliver significant economic benefits. Congressman Gregory W. Meeks highlighted the creation of good-paying jobs and support for small businesses as key outcomes of the Terminal 5 renovation. “This project will uplift local communities by ensuring New Yorkers have a direct stake in its success,” he remarked.

Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of the renovations for local families and businesses. “A refreshed Terminal 5 will not only give travelers a fantastic first impression of The World's Borough but will also create good-paying jobs for Queens residents,” he stated.

The terminal's new offerings will feature a mix of globally recognized and locally rooted brands. Travelers can expect to see popular names such as Eataly, The Halal Guys, and Shake Shack alongside local favorites like Jacob’s Pickles and DiFara Pizza. The initiative also includes partnerships with various operators dedicated to supporting local businesses.

The commitment to fostering local engagement is further underscored by the inclusion of joint-venture partnerships as part of the federal airport concessions disadvantaged business enterprise (ACDBE) program. This program aims to pair experienced operators with smaller businesses to enhance their operational capabilities in the airport environment.

As JetBlue continues to invest in JFK, including the development of Terminal 6, the improvements to Terminal 5 will ensure that it remains a premier destination for travelers. Since its opening in 2008, Terminal 5 has been recognized for its customer-focused design and serves approximately 35,000 customers daily across 165 JetBlue flights.
