Ryder System Inc. Celebrates Two Leaders Recognized as “Top Women to Watch in Transportation”

This annual recognition, now in its ninth year, is aimed at spotlighting outstanding female professionals who have excelled in their careers over the past year and actively support the advancement of women within their organizations and the industry at large.

Lesley Kerr, Ryder's vice president of human resources and a member of the WIT board of directors, remarked, “At Ryder, we are committed to recruiting, developing, and retaining talent that strengthens our organization and the industry as a whole. Cheryl D. Sunshine, who serves as Ryder’s Director of Operations, has been recognized for her outstanding leadership in the transportation sector. With over 19 years of experience at Ryder, she has made significant strides in operations management, workforce development, and strategic innovation.

Her role involves driving initiatives that enhance service performance, optimize maintenance strategies, and improve operational efficiency across Ryder's Fleet Management Solutions locations. Cheryl's leadership extends to the Ryder Service Employee and Technician Trainee Council, where she fosters communication with frontline teams and implements programs aimed at improving employee retention. Her involvement in the Ryder Future Leaders Program further demonstrates her commitment to cultivating the next generation of leadership within the company.

Joy Young, a Senior Project Manager at Torque by Ryder™, has been recognized for her impactful contributions to the transportation industry during her 17 years at Ryder. In her current role, she spearheads strategic projects that focus on process improvements and technology integration, which are vital for optimizing fleet operations.

Joy's leadership has been instrumental in scaling retail maintenance efforts, enhancing supplier relationships, and driving cost reductions—efforts that ensure efficient and reliable service for Ryder’s retail customers. Her commitment to promoting the career growth and development of women in the industry makes her a role model, particularly in sectors traditionally dominated by men.
