Ryder System Inc. Celebrates Excellence with 54th Annual Driver of the Year Awards

This year’s honorees—Tamara “Tammy” Land, Robert Deroy, and Terry Frey—each bring decades of experience along with millions of safe miles driven. Their dedication to excellence not only enhances Ryder’s reputation but also positively impacts the communities and customers they serve. As part of this prestigious honor, they will be inducted into the Ryder Driver Hall of Fame.

Based in Waterloo, Iowa, Tammy Land is recognized as Ryder’s Supply Chain Solutions Driver of the Year. With over 32 years of professional driving experience, including five years with Ryder, Land has logged an impressive 2.2 million miles, with 415,000 miles driven for Ryder while maintaining an outstanding safety record.

As a Certified Driver Trainer, she plays a critical role in mentoring new drivers, fostering a culture of safety from day one. Outside of her professional commitments, Land is actively involved in community efforts, including wildlife rehabilitation and breast cancer awareness initiatives.

Operating out of West Palm Beach, Florida, Robert Deroy is celebrated as the Dedicated Transportation Solutions Driver of the Year. With 25 years of professional driving experience, including 15 years with Ryder, Deroy has logged nearly 1.3 million miles with Ryder and a total career mileage of 2.2 million miles.

He is a long-standing Certified Driver Trainer and a Smith System Trainer, known for his expertise in high-stakes, safety-critical situations. Beyond his driving duties, Deroy actively participates in community support activities, particularly in emergency response and disaster relief.

Hailing from Conestoga, Pennsylvania, Terry Frey has been awarded the Fleet Management Solutions Driver of the Year award. With 34 years of professional driving experience, including over 26 years supporting a Ryder-managed fleet for Turkey Hill Dairy, Frey has logged nearly 2.5 million miles in his career, with more than 2 million miles driven for Turkey Hill Dairy.

Frey is recognized for his reliability and professionalism, earning the respect of Ryder technicians, customer teams, and fellow drivers alike. In addition to his professional achievements, Frey is dedicated to mentoring young people and supporting nonprofit organizations focused on youth development and character-building initiatives.
