Amazon Web Services Partners with DP World Tour: A Game Changer for Golf
In a landmark development for both the world of golf and technology, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has been announced as the Official Cloud Provider of the DP World Tour. The partnership was unveiled on November 12, 2025, marking a significant evolution in how the sport will leverage data and technology to enhance the experience for players, spectators, and broadcasters alike.
1. Transforming the Golf Experience with AI
The collaboration between AWS and the DP World Tour aims to revolutionize the media and spectator experience through advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. By utilizing AWS's leading AI infrastructure, the Tour plans to integrate real-time data with historical context, creating an enriched environment for golf fans globally.
Nina Walsh, Global Leader for Media, Entertainment, Games, and Sports at AWS, emphasized the complexity of creating an AI system tailored to golf. "Imagine following a crucial shot on your mobile device and instantly understanding not just the distance, but the historical success rate, the impact of the wind, or how the player performs under pressure – all narrated in your preferred language," she said. This innovative approach aims to provide fans with instant insights, enhancing their engagement and understanding of the game.
2. Enhanced Broadcasting and Social Media Engagement
One of the centerpiece initiatives of this partnership is the deployment of AWS Media Services, which will enable seamless streaming of live and on-demand content. Fans will be able to access fast-round compilations of their favorite players and enjoy new data-driven insights and commentary that will be available in multiple languages.
The introduction of generative AI into the broadcasting strategy promises to create a more personalized experience, allowing fans to engage with content tailored to their interests. This includes the ability to watch specific player highlights or receive in-depth analysis on pivotal shots during tournaments.
3. Innovative Solutions for Spectators
AWS also plans to upgrade the DP World Tour’s “Virtual Twin” product, which offers a digital replica of each golf course. This enhanced technology will process over 1 million data points per tournament, delivering a comprehensive view of each hole. Spectators will be able to access this information on their mobile devices or on screens throughout the venue, allowing them to follow the action no matter where they are on the course.
4. Streamlined Tournament Operations
In a bid to improve operational efficiency, AWS will introduce an intelligence platform designed to process vast amounts of data in real-time. This platform will assist DP World Tour operational teams in making informed decisions regarding various aspects of tournament management, from marshal deployments to spectator flow. Technologies such as Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Quick Suite will empower the Tour to make data-driven decisions that enhance the overall event experience.
Michael Cole, Chief Technology Officer at the DP World Tour, highlighted the complexity of managing golf tournaments, describing them as “smart cities” that need to be delivered each week across different countries. He noted that hosting tournament services on AWS will ensure greater consistency and reliability, regardless of location.
5. Commitment to Sustainability
In alignment with the DP World Tour’s goal of achieving net zero carbon by 2040, AWS will support the launch of “Green Drive Live.” This new data platform will monitor and optimize various environmental metrics in real-time, including energy consumption, emissions, and waste management. A live dashboard will provide spectators with immediate insights into the tournament's environmental impact, reinforcing the Tour's commitment to sustainability.
Since 2024, the DP World Tour has been reducing its carbon footprint by increasing remote television broadcasts, which have reportedly decreased emissions by approximately 87 tonnes per tournament. The partnership with AWS will further explore live cloud production capabilities to expand this initiative.
6. The Future of Golf
The strategic partnership between AWS and the DP World Tour signifies a major advancement in the integration of technology within professional sports. As the Tour continues to evolve its "Tournament-As-A-Service" vision, the potential for a more engaging, data-rich experience for players and fans alike is set to transform the landscape of golf.
With a busy schedule ahead, including a minimum of 42 tournaments across 26 countries in 2025, this partnership positions the DP World Tour at the forefront of the sporting world’s technological revolution. As the collaboration unfolds, golf enthusiasts can expect a new era of connected and intelligent golfing experiences, all powered by AWS.
