1. Introduction of the Elevated Interior

On May 13, 2025, United Airlines Holdings Inc. announced a groundbreaking initiative that promises to elevate the standard of international premium travel among U.S. carriers. The unveiling of the "United Elevated" interior for its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft is designed to enhance the flying experience for customers, particularly those in business class. The announcement highlights the airline’s commitment to providing a superior travel experience, complete with luxurious upgrades and innovative features.

2. Key Features of the Elevated Interior

New Business Class Suites

The centerpiece of the Elevated interior is the introduction of eight United Polaris Studio suites, positioned in the first row of each business class section. These lie-flat, all-aisle-access suites are 25% larger than standard United Polaris seats and feature privacy doors, an extra ottoman seat for companions, exclusive entrƩe options, and the largest seatback screens in the U.S. at 27 inches, equipped with 4K OLED technology.

Enhanced Customer Experience

Alongside the new suites, standard United Polaris seats are also receiving significant upgrades, including sliding doors and larger, 19-inch 4K OLED screens. All customers flying United Polaris will have access to the airline's six award-winning Polaris lounges, further enhancing the overall travel experience.

Andrew Nocella, United's Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, expressed confidence in the new innovations, stating, "We never stand still and are always looking for more ways to set ourselves apart from other carriers. And we're confident this elevated experience will take international flying to new heights."

3. Comprehensive Cabin Improvements

Total Premium Seat Count

The reimagined Elevated interior includes a total of 99 premium seats, the highest percentage among U.S. carriers. The seating configuration offers a variety of choices for travelers, including United Premium Plus seats with privacy dividers and wireless charging, as well as a United Economy cabin boasting the largest Economy class seatback screens in the world.

Food and Beverage Enhancements

United Airlines is also investing heavily in its food and beverage offerings, with over $150 million allocated for improvements this year. Noteworthy features include the introduction of a grab-and-go snack bar for United Polaris customers, highlighted by an Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche paired with Champagne Laurent-Perrier CuvƩe RosƩ. Additionally, mid-flight meal options will include a regionally influenced tapas service, while Economy class customers will enjoy expanded dining options.

4. Future Plans and Deliveries

United expects to take delivery of the first Boeing 787-9 with the Elevated interior by the end of 2025, with the inaugural international passenger flights set for 2026, connecting San Francisco to destinations such as Singapore and London. The airline, which is the largest carrier across the Atlantic and Pacific, will incorporate the Elevated interior into all future 787 deliveries, with approximately 30 planes expected to join the fleet by 2027.

Innovative Connectivity

Aircraft featuring the Elevated interior will also be among the first to offer free Starlink connectivity for United MileagePlus members, ensuring fast, reliable internet access even in remote locations.

5. Conclusion

The introduction of the United Elevated interior marks a significant step forward for United Airlines in enhancing the premium travel experience. With luxurious suites, superior connectivity, and a focus on gourmet dining, United is poised to redefine international flying and set a new benchmark in the airline industry. As United continues to innovate and invest in customer experience, travelers can look forward to a new era of luxury air travel.
