1. A Bold Initiative

On September 22, 2025, Toast Inc., a leading digital platform for the restaurant industry, announced the launch of the Toast Changemakers Program, a grant initiative designed to combat food insecurity across the United States. This program is part of Toast's ambitious $5 million commitment over five years aimed at addressing the pressing issue of food insecurity, which affects approximately 13.5% of U.S. households, according to 2023 statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

2. Empowering Restaurants

The Changemakers Program is a testament to the vital role restaurants play not only in serving meals but also in supporting their communities. A recent report by the National Restaurant Association revealed that 84% of restaurant operators made charitable contributions between 2020 and 2023, with 75% of those donations comprising food. Recognizing the efforts of these establishments, Toast, in partnership with Hello Alice and the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN), will award a total of $150,000 in grants to 15 U.S. restaurants dedicated to fighting hunger in their local areas.

Each selected restaurant will receive a grant of $10,000, enabling them to scale their initiatives and make a more significant impact in their communities.

3. Voices of Support

Aman Narang, CEO of Toast, expressed his enthusiasm for the program, stating, “At its core, feeding people is what restaurants do best, and Toast is uniquely positioned to bring the restaurant community together to make a real impact in the fight against food insecurity.” Narang emphasized the company’s pride in supporting the restaurants that are actively making a difference and enhancing the food experience for all.

Acclaimed chef and Toast customer Tyler Florence has also joined forces with the program, highlighting the importance of the restaurant industry's role in community service. Florence remarked, “The restaurant industry is at the heart of our communities, and supporting those who are serving great food and serving their neighbors in need is a vital effort.” His involvement aims to promote the Changemakers Program and encourage hospitality leaders to apply.

4. Application Process

The Changemakers Program is open to all eligible U.S. restaurants and food service businesses, not limited to Toast customers. This inclusivity reflects Toast's commitment to broadening the scope of support across the industry.

Important Details for Applicants:

  • Eligibility & Application: Interested restaurants can visit the Toast Changemakers Program website for detailed eligibility criteria, terms, and conditions. Applications must be submitted by October 17, 2025.
  • Grant Distribution: A total of 15 restaurant winners will be selected, each receiving $10,000.
  • Selection Process: A committee composed of representatives from Toast, Hello Alice, and GEN will review applications. Winners will be notified via email in mid-November.

5. Looking Ahead

Toast's Changemakers Program not only aims to provide financial support but also seeks to celebrate the efforts of restaurants that are making a tangible difference in the fight against hunger. This initiative underscores the company’s dedication to leveraging its platform to foster community engagement and support.
