Jordan Kass, President of Managed Solutions at C.H. Robinson, emphasized the significance of this closed-loop AI system, stating, “It will run continuously, improve the operation it’s running and heal itself when something breaks — without an alert or a human noticing a problem first.” This innovation marks a departure from traditional supply chain management that often relies on human intervention and extensive timeframes to assess performance.

One of the standout features of the Lean AI Engineer is its ability to evaluate an entire supply chain in a mere 25 to 30 minutes. This contrasts sharply with conventional assessments that typically take up to four weeks and focus on historical performance rather than proactive improvements. The Lean AI Planner, which manages shipments through an extensive network of interconnected AI agents, feeds critical data back to the Lean AI Engineer, allowing for continuous refinement of the supply chain.

Kass noted that the traditional approach to premium logistics has relied heavily on human talent, which often fails to scale with demand. “We’ve changed that by encoding expertise in the technology itself,” he stated. As a result, shippers can benefit from a consistent application of knowledge and decision-making across their shipments, regardless of the availability of personnel.

The technology now autonomously manages 92% of 4PL shipments globally, encompassing various modes of transport including trucking, ocean, air, and rail. Early adopters of the Lean AI Engineer have already begun to witness substantial cost savings and operational efficiencies. One customer reported a 17% reduction in loads across 20 locations, translating to annual savings of over $1 million by adjusting their shipping frequency. Another client saw an 81% reduction in loads by reorganizing shipments to serve multiple delivery locations from a single pickup.
