Comcast Expands Digital Opportunities with New Flagship Lift Zones
Location: Various Cities Across America
In a significant move aimed at enhancing digital access and opportunity, Comcast Corporation has announced the launch of five new Flagship Lift Zones across key urban areas in the United States. This initiative is designed to provide free WiFi, advanced technology, workforce training, and digital skills programming to underserved communities. The new locations, set to open this fall, include Chicago, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, St. Paul, and Federal Way, WA, as part of Comcast's ongoing commitment to bridge the digital divide.
1. A $50 Million Commitment to Connectivity
Comcast's Lift Zones initiative is backed by a substantial investment of $50 million in cash and in-kind contributions. This funding supports the company’s mission to ensure that more people have access to the internet and the digital tools necessary for success in today's economy. Dalila Wilson-Scott, Executive Vice President and Chief Impact & Inclusion Officer at Comcast, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “We’re not just building networks – we’re building pathways to opportunity.”
This launch builds on the success of previous Flagship Lift Zones established in Atlanta, Houston, and Oakland in 2024. Comcast plans to open five additional flagship locations by the end of 2026, with anticipated sites in Pennsylvania and Florida.
2. What the Flagship Lift Zones Offer
Each Flagship Lift Zone is designed in collaboration with local organizations and includes several key features:
- Technology Upgrades: Enhanced technology resources for community use.
- Digital Skills Training: Programs aimed at equipping individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital landscape.
- Dedicated Grant Funding: Financial support for local programming initiatives.
- On-Site Digital Navigators: Professionals available to assist community members with internet access, device usage, and digital literacy.
Additionally, each site will benefit from Xfinity's complimentary high-speed 6GHz WiFi, which offers a reliable connection, multi-gig speeds, and the ability to connect numerous devices seamlessly.
3. Spotlight on the D.C. Flagship Lift Zone
On the same day as the announcement, Comcast will officially open its newest Flagship Lift Zone at Building Bridges Across the River at TheARC in Washington, D.C. This location will enhance workforce development programs and represents a $1 million commitment from Comcast to serve as the connectivity partner for the 11th Street Bridge Park initiative, in collaboration with the District Department of Transportation.
4. Additional Locations Set to Open This Fall
The five new Flagship Lift Zones will be located at:
- Chicago, IL: Situated at the Aspire Center for Workforce Innovation in the Austin neighborhood, this state-of-the-art facility spans 76,000 square feet and focuses on workforce training and economic empowerment.
- Philadelphia, PA: The Lift Zone at Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc. (OIC) will provide job training in critical sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, and digital media.
