1. Introduction

In response to the recent surge in diesel prices triggered by escalating tensions in the Middle East, C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc. has announced a series of initiatives aimed at supporting its network of contract carriers. The logistics giant is introducing free discount-fuel cards and cash advances for fuel expenses, recognizing the financial strain faced by carriers in the current economic landscape.

2. Understanding the Financial Impact on Carriers

According to Michael Castagnetto, President of North American Surface Transportation at C.H. Robinson, fuel expenses represent a significant portion of operational costs for carriers, ranging from 20% to as high as 28%. This is especially challenging for the nearly 60% of carriers who operate as owner-operators and are vital in transporting goods across North America.

“Today’s environment is especially challenging for the nearly 60% of carriers that are owner-operators,” Castagnetto stated. “These small businesses carry a huge amount of the goods that come to everybody’s stores, offices, factories, and homes.”

3. The C.H. Robinson Fuel Card

C.H. Robinson is rolling out the C.H. Robinson Fuel Card, which provides substantial discounts on fuel at thousands of truck stops nationwide. This card offers potential savings of up to $385 per fill-up and as much as $9,000 annually per truck. Carriers can easily apply for the card online, with approvals typically granted within three to five business days. Notably, the application fee will be waived for carriers who apply during the months of April and May.

4. Cash Advances to Ease Financial Strain

In a further effort to alleviate the financial pressure on carriers, C.H. Robinson is offering a cash advance program. This initiative allows carriers to receive up to 60% of their pay after picking up a load, helping them manage expenses while still on the road. For the months of April and May, the fee associated with these cash advances will also be waived for those using the C.H. Robinson Fuel Card.

Carriers can request a cash advance quickly via the Navisphere® Carrier app or website, with eligibility extending to both new and existing carriers. The process is designed to be user-friendly, ensuring that carriers have access to funds when they need them most.

5. Sign-Up Opportunities for New Carriers

C.H. Robinson encourages carriers not currently working with them to sign up to access a wide array of benefits. New carriers can gain access to a substantial volume of loads in North America, the C.H. Robinson Fuel Card, rapid payment options, and cutting-edge technology designed to streamline operations.
