1. A Milestone in Business Aviation

On October 13, 2025, RTX Corporation marked a significant milestone in the aviation industry with the world debut of the Cessna Citation Ascend at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) annual meeting. This highly anticipated business jet, powered by Pratt & Whitney's advanced PW545D engines, showcases the culmination of over six decades of collaboration between Pratt & Whitney Canada and Textron Aviation.

2. Powerful Partnership

Scott McElvaine, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Pratt & Whitney Canada, emphasized the strength and longevity of this partnership. "The Citation Ascend is the latest product of Pratt & Whitney Canada's longstanding collaboration with Textron Aviation, a relationship that goes back more than 60 years," he stated. This partnership has produced numerous iconic business jets and turboprops, reinforcing the reputation of Cessna and Beechcraft aircraft as some of the most reliable and efficient platforms in the industry.

3. Technological Advancements

The PW545D engines that power the Citation Ascend are equipped with Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) technology. This innovative feature allows the aircraft to incorporate new auto-throttle technology, which simplifies engine operation, maximizes efficiency, and significantly reduces pilot workload. Furthermore, improvements in the compressor and turbine sections of the engine contribute to lower fuel consumption and operating temperatures, enhancing the overall performance of the aircraft.

Pratt & Whitney Canada has a robust history with the PW500 engine family, having manufactured over 5,300 PW500 engines to date. Of these, nearly 4,900 remain in active service, collectively logging an impressive 27 million flight hours across seven different aircraft models operating in 71 countries.

4. The Future of Business Aviation

The introduction of the Cessna Citation Ascend is expected to strengthen Textron Aviation's global customer base, with McElvaine expressing confidence in the aircraft's future. "We foresee a solid future for the Citation Ascend," he remarked, highlighting the enduring legacy of innovation and reliability that the partnership between Pratt & Whitney and Textron Aviation has fostered.

5. RTX: A Leader in Aerospace and Defense

RTX Corporation stands as the world's largest aerospace and defense company, employing over 185,000 individuals globally. The company continues to push the boundaries of technology and science, striving to redefine connectivity and protection in our world. RTX operates through its industry-leading businesses, including Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, and Raytheon, and reported sales exceeding $80 billion in 2024.
