1. Transition of Leadership

In a significant shift in leadership, Workday Inc. (NASDAQ: WDAY), the enterprise AI platform renowned for its innovative approach to managing human resources and finances, has announced that co-founder and current executive chair, Aneel Bhusri, will return to the role of Chief Executive Officer. This transition comes as the company gears up for a new era, emphasizing its commitment to leading in the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI).

Carl Eschenbach, who has served as CEO for the past three years, will step down from his role and also resign from the company’s board. However, he will continue to support the organization as a strategic advisor to Bhusri.

2. Acknowledging Contributions

Mark Hawkins, Workday’s vice chair and lead independent director, expressed gratitude for Eschenbach's leadership during a transformative period for the company. Under his guidance, Workday experienced global expansion, an enhanced industry focus, and improved operational discipline. Hawkins noted, "Carl stepped in at a pivotal time and helped Workday mature into a more global, disciplined organization," highlighting the foundational work done under Eschenbach's leadership.

3. Bhusri's Vision for the Future

Bhusri, reflecting on the leadership change, stated, "I'm deeply grateful to Carl for leading Workday through an important chapter — scaling the company, building on our foundation, and positioning us well for what's ahead." He emphasized the transformative nature of AI, claiming it represents a bigger shift than Software as a Service (SaaS) and will define the next generation of market leaders. Bhusri expressed his enthusiasm about returning to the CEO role, collaborating with company presidents Gerrit Kazmaier and Rob Enslin to seize the opportunities that lie ahead.

4. Eschenbach's Legacy

Eschenbach acknowledged the privilege of serving as CEO and emphasized the achievements made during his tenure, such as instilling operational discipline and laying the groundwork in AI. He expressed gratitude to the board and Bhusri for their trust and support, indicating a smooth transition as he steps into a supportive role.

5. Fiscal Outlook

Alongside the leadership transition, Workday provided insights into its financial outlook for the fiscal year 2026. According to a Form 8-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on February 4, 2026, the company anticipates that its fourth quarter and full-year results will align with previously provided guidance, with the exception of adjustments to its GAAP operating margin. These projections are based on preliminary unaudited financial information and are subject to the company’s normal quarterly closing processes. Workday is scheduled to report its complete fiscal 2026 fourth quarter and full-year financial results after market close on February 24, 2026.
