In a significant move aimed at aligning its operations with the rapidly evolving needs of its customers, S&P Global Inc. (NYSE: SPGI) announced a revamped Market Intelligence operating model today. This strategic evolution is designed to capitalize on the burgeoning AI-driven market by integrating advanced technologies into its data offerings and client experiences.

1. Restructuring for Innovation and Growth

The new structure of S&P Global Market Intelligence will consist of two primary verticals: Kensho Data & Platforms and Enterprise Solutions. This dual-vertical approach aims to streamline operations and enhance customer engagement, allowing clients to transition from insights to actionable outcomes more swiftly and confidently.

Kensho Data & Platforms

Kensho Data & Platforms will be spearheaded by Sally Moore, who has expanded her role as Chief Client Officer to serve as Co-Head of this new vertical. This segment will focus on delivering data, platform capabilities, and client engagement, all through an AI-enhanced lens. The Kensho Data component is designed to unlock additional value from S&P Global's extensive data repository, enabling the creation of innovative products that have a substantial impact on customer operations.

Leading the Kensho Data segment is Bhavesh Dayalji, who will now serve as Head of Kensho Data & Intelligence. This area will act as the primary interface for clients, delivering AI-powered insights and data solutions tailored to individual needs.

The Platforms aspect will unify various client-facing interfaces, including Capital IQ, Ratings Direct, Visible Alpha, and With Intelligence. Under the leadership of Whit McGraw, now the Head of Platforms, this initiative will emphasize creating an AI-native user experience, streamlining access to S&P Global’s intelligence.

Enterprise Solutions

Darren Thomas will continue to lead Enterprise Solutions but will assume the additional title of Co-Head of Market Intelligence, Enterprise Solutions. This segment will focus on delivering critical infrastructure and workflows tied to financial markets, ensuring that S&P Global remains at the forefront of the industry's evolving demands. Key components will include pricing and reference data, consensus pricing, and valuation methodologies across various markets.

2. Enhancements to Customer Experience

Martina Cheung, President and CEO of S&P Global, emphasized the necessity of these changes in her statement: “As AI transforms how intelligence is consumed and acted upon, S&P Global is evolving. Customers require trusted, essential intelligence that provides context and conviction in their decision-making processes.” The new model is expected to enhance customer experience while simultaneously driving revenue growth and improving profit margins.

Additionally, the restructuring includes a strategic realignment of specific services. The Maritime & Trade segment will transition to S&P Global Energy to offer comprehensive global supply chain data during times of increasing fragmentation and volatility. Similarly, Credit Analytics capabilities will be integrated into S&P Global Ratings, extending coverage to small and midsized companies.

3. Leadership Changes and Future Directions

On the leadership front, the company announced the retirement of Steve Kemps, Chief Legal Officer, effective December 31, 2026. Kemps has been a pivotal figure at S&P Global since 2016, providing guidance through various transitions. His successor will be appointed to ensure a seamless transition, with Kemps potentially advising during his remaining tenure.

In a separate announcement, S&P Global disclosed a recast of previously reported quarterly segment financial information for 2025 and early 2026. This data, reflecting the new reportable divisions, is available on the company's Investor Relations website.

4. Conclusion

S&P Global’s new Market Intelligence operating model is a forward-thinking strategy aimed at leveraging AI to meet the evolving demands of its customers. By focusing on integrated solutions and enhanced customer experiences, the company is positioning itself for sustained growth and innovation in an increasingly complex financial landscape. As the company navigates these changes, it will be crucial to observe how these initiatives translate into tangible benefits for its clients and stakeholders.
