Roblox Corporation Rolls Out Global Age-Based Account System

On June 16, 2026, Roblox Corporation (NYSE: RBLX) announced the worldwide availability of its new account systems—Roblox Kids and Roblox Select—tailored for users under the age of 16. This rollout follows a successful limited market introduction in Australia, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, and is part of the company's ongoing commitment to create a safer online environment for children as they navigate the digital landscape.

Roblox's new accounts are designed to provide age-based protections that evolve with a child's development. Matt Kaufman, Roblox's Chief Safety Officer, emphasized the need for online experiences to adapt to children's changing needs, stating, "With Roblox Kids and Roblox Select, we’re creating age-based protections designed to support younger users at different stages, while giving parents tools to personalize the experience for their family."

Both accounts implement stringent review standards for games, including developer verification and real-time evaluations, while excluding sensitive content and social hangouts from the available game libraries.

Roblox has developed an automatic progression system that transitions users between account types as they age. Users will move from Roblox Kids to Roblox Select at age 9, and eventually to standard Roblox accounts at age 16.

In conjunction with these account types, Roblox is enhancing its parental control features. Parents who link their accounts to their children's can manage gameplay activity, friend lists, content ratings, communication settings, screen time, and spending limits. New features include granular game blocking, direct chat management, and a game approval feature that empowers parents to grant access to specific games beyond the child's default settings.

Leonardo S., a father from Brazil and member of Roblox’s Global Parent Council, expressed his appreciation for the new account types, asserting that they offer “more peace of mind” and strengthen the connection between parents and their children's online gaming experiences.

Roblox's latest initiative aligns with the company's goal to foster age-appropriate online interactions. The platform has taken significant steps, including becoming the first major online gaming service to enforce facial age checks for chat features. Following this rollout, users who fail to complete the age check will be barred from accessing standard accounts or chat features, regardless of their actual age.

Additionally, Roblox will implement restrictions on sharing links and images in chat, further ensuring a safe gaming environment. Starting this month, users under 16 will no longer be able to share or view social media links on their profiles or game detail pages.

Later this year, Roblox plans to adopt the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) framework, a globally recognized approach for content rating in digital games and applications. This transition is set to enhance the company's ability to provide accurate content ratings across various regions.
