March 4, 2025 – Penguin Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: PENG), a leader in advanced computing solutions, has announced significant advancements to its AI infrastructure management software platform, ICE ClusterWare™, formerly known as Scyld ClusterWare®. The latest updates, introduced today, aim to enhance enterprises' ability to build intelligent compute environments that can scale seamlessly.

1. Key Features of ICE ClusterWare Expansion

The expanded ICE ClusterWare platform now includes robust features designed to streamline AI operations and improve efficiency. The enhancements include:

  • Multi-tenancy Foundational Support: This feature facilitates secure resource isolation and dynamic workload partitioning across various users and departments, paving the way for future multi-tenancy capabilities.
  • Enhanced Orchestration Controls: A unified control plane is introduced for managing sub-clusters and associated infrastructure, simplifying oversight and management.
  • Streamlined Workflows: The platform simplifies deployment and scaling of AI infrastructure through automated policy enforcement and intelligent job scheduling.

Trey Layton, Vice President of Software and Product Management at Penguin Solutions, emphasized the importance of these updates by stating, “AI computing demands an integrated, intelligent approach that goes beyond traditional IT infrastructure.” He noted that the new features would allow enterprises to optimize efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness while ensuring peak performance for AI workloads.

2. Introduction of ICE ClusterWare AIM Service

In conjunction with the software platform enhancements, Penguin Solutions unveiled the ICE ClusterWare AIM™ service—a groundbreaking optimization service designed to maximize the performance, availability, and operational efficiency of AI infrastructure through predictive automation. This service aims to address common challenges faced by IT and data center operations teams managing large-scale AI and high-performance computing (HPC) clusters.

Key offerings of the ICE ClusterWare AIM service include:

  • Automated Remediation: This feature detects and resolves system inefficiencies proactively, preventing potential performance issues.
  • Prescriptive Maintenance: Leveraging patent-pending technology, this capability identifies and mitigates possible failures before they occur, significantly reducing downtime.
  • Operational Efficiency at Scale: The service optimizes workload distribution using common scheduling software, enhancing GPU utilization and improving return on investment (ROI) on AI infrastructure investments.

3. Industry Insights

The challenges of scaling AI infrastructure are significant, particularly as traditional IT approaches often result in underutilized GPU clusters. Ashish Nadkarni, IDC Group Vice President and General Manager of Worldwide Infrastructure Research, commented on these challenges, stating, “Navigating AI infrastructure at scale is a challenge—traditional IT approaches often lead to underutilized GPU clusters, operating at only 50% of their potential value.” He praised Penguin Solutions’ integrated and automated approach to AI infrastructure management, which simplifies deployment and optimization of high-performance environments.

4. Penguin Solutions’ Commitment to Advanced Computing

The ICE ClusterWare software platform and ICE ClusterWare AIM service are integral components of the Penguin Solutions OriginAI® Infrastructure Solution. This offering is built on over 25 years of experience in designing, deploying, and managing advanced computing, with a robust portfolio of more than 85,000 GPUs currently deployed.

Penguin Solutions plans to showcase its ICE ClusterWare software platform and OriginAI infrastructure solution at the upcoming NVIDIA GTC 2025, set to take place at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center from March 17, 2025. Visitors can find Penguin Solutions at booth #332.

As companies increasingly turn to AI to drive innovation and efficiency, Penguin Solutions remains at the forefront of providing the necessary tools and expertise to navigate this complex landscape, transforming challenges into opportunities.
