Joby Aviation Launches Propeller Blade Manufacturing in Dayton, Ohio

Joby Aviation Inc. (NYSE: JOBY), a pioneering company in the development of electric air taxis, has announced a significant milestone in its manufacturing capabilities. As of October 31, 2025, Joby has officially begun producing propeller blades at its newly established facility in Dayton, Ohio. This move marks a crucial step in enhancing in-house manufacturing of essential components as the company gears up for the commercial launch of its air taxi service.

Eric Allison, Chief Product Officer at Joby, highlighted the strategic advantages of the Dayton location. He stated, “Dayton gives us the resources, talent, and speed to scale one of the most technically demanding parts of our aircraft.” The city, renowned for its rich history in aircraft production, offers a highly skilled workforce and proximity to critical suppliers, making it an ideal location for developing the advanced propeller blades that are integral to Joby’s aircraft design.

The propeller blades, designed for low acoustic profiles, are the result of over a decade of complex engineering efforts. Each propeller consists of five blades, with a total of 30 blades required per aircraft. Joby anticipates that its Dayton facility will have the capacity to produce up to 15,000 blades annually, significantly contributing to the company's scaling efforts in the region. Completion of conforming blades, which meet all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards for inspection and certification, is expected next month, with plans to install them on flight test aircraft in the upcoming year.

Joby’s expansion in Dayton is not just about meeting immediate production needs; it is also about preparing for the future. The facility is projected to support the production of up to 500 aircraft annually, positioning it as a key site for mass production of the company’s aircraft components.
