ArcBest Corp Unveils Vaux Vision Advancements and Leadership Transition

ArcBest's Vaux Vision is a groundbreaking 3D perception technology designed to transform traditional forklifts into intelligent mobile dimensioners. First introduced in February, Vaux Vision has been undergoing pilot testing with various end users, including ArcBest's own LTL carrier, ABF Freight.

Initial findings from these pilot programs suggest that Vaux Vision can effectively capture accurate freight dimensions in real-time, even in fast-paced industrial settings. This capability is expected to enhance operational efficiency, as it allows for in-motion processing of freight data. Future iterations of Vaux Vision are set to expand its functionality, providing deeper insights into shipments. This includes the ability to identify hazardous materials, non-stackable freight, and issues related to packaging integrity, as well as automated freight scanning that promises to boost productivity and accuracy.

Vaux Vision is the latest addition to ArcBest's suite of award-winning Vaux technologies, which also includes the Vaux Freight Movement System™ and Vaux Smart Autonomy™. Together, these tools are designed to revolutionize material handling processes across warehouses, distribution centers, and industrial facilities, thereby enhancing safety and productivity.

As part of its strategic growth plan, ArcBest announced the appointment of Brian Nachtigall as the new General Manager of Vaux. Nachtigall brings over 20 years of experience in warehouse automation, product marketing, and strategy consulting, with a strong focus on machine vision, advanced robotics, and industrial automation. His previous roles include serving as director of corporate strategy consulting for EY Parthenon and leadership positions at Brooks Automation, Boston Dynamics, Cognex Corporation, and Bain & Company.

Dennis Anderson, ArcBest's Chief Innovation Officer, expressed confidence in Nachtigall's unique skill set, stating, "Brian’s unique experience makes him ideally suited to meet our customers’ needs and profitably scale our Vaux business." Nachtigall's leadership is expected to align closely with ArcBest's overall growth strategy while enhancing revenue from the innovative Vaux suite.

Nachtigall's appointment comes ahead of the retirement of Craig Wahlmeier, the current Vice President of Innovation and Operations for Vaux, who will retire in February 2026 after nearly 38 years with the company. Until his retirement, Wahlmeier will continue to support a seamless transition by reporting to Nachtigall.

Anderson also took a moment to acknowledge Wahlmeier's significant contributions to ArcBest's innovation journey, stating, "Craig has been instrumental in ArcBest’s innovation progress... I thank Craig for his dedication and service to our company, and I wish him and his family the very best in his next chapter."
