1. Introduction

In a groundbreaking move aimed at enhancing reporting and compliance processes, Workiva Inc. (NYSE: WK) has announced the launch of three specialized AI agents along with a new intelligence layer known as Workiva Knowledge. This innovative suite is designed to empower enterprise teams with advanced capabilities, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance in an increasingly complex financial landscape. The announcement was made on July 29, 2026, and is a significant step toward the integration of artificial intelligence in high-stakes reporting.

2. The Evolution of Reporting and Compliance

As organizations face mounting pressures to deliver timely and accurate financial disclosures, Workiva is positioning itself to lead this transformation. "Finance, sustainability, risk, and compliance teams are moving from execution to orchestration as AI agents take on more of the work," stated Deepak Bharadwaj, Chief Product Officer of Workiva. The company aims to maintain its commitment to accuracy and transparency while adapting to the evolving needs of its clients.

3. Introducing the Specialized AI Agents

Workiva's latest offering includes three purpose-built AI agents, each designed to tackle specific challenges faced by reporting and compliance teams:

1. Tie-Out Agent

One of the most labor-intensive aspects of financial reporting is ensuring that figures are consistent and traceable to their original sources. Workiva’s Tie-Out Agent simplifies this process by performing comprehensive checks across financial reports. The agent identifies discrepancies and provides AI-generated explanations for each variance, allowing teams to catch errors early in the process. This facilitates a faster financial close and produces a fully documented audit trail, thereby streamlining internal reviews and external examinations.

2. Benchmarking Agent

Understanding how peers report financial data is critical for organizations aiming to align their disclosures with industry standards. The Benchmarking Agent integrates peer intelligence directly into the reporting process, analyzing publicly filed data from 10-Ks and 10-Qs submitted to the SEC. This enables financial reporting teams to create custom peer groups, identify gaps in disclosures, and draft insights that are traceable back to source filings. The result is a more informed and competitive reporting strategy.

3. Sustainability Disclosure Agent

With the global emphasis on sustainability, compliance requirements are also expanding. Workiva's Sustainability Disclosure Agent addresses these challenges by drafting, checking, and improving disclosures in line with ESRS and ISSB standards. The agent generates gap assessments and compliance scorecards, providing actionable recommendations that allow teams to focus on reviewing ready-to-file disclosures rather than interpreting complex new requirements.

4. The Role of Workiva Knowledge

Beyond the individual capabilities of the specialized AI agents, Workiva has introduced Workiva Knowledge, a persistent intelligence layer that builds upon an organization’s data, instructions, and content. This layer enhances the AI interactions within the platform, allowing organizations to cultivate intelligence that compounds with every reporting cycle. By leveraging past filings, internal policies, and trusted source documentation, Workiva Knowledge ensures that the AI output is contextually grounded and traceable.

Model Context Protocol (MCP)

Complementing Workiva Knowledge is the newly announced Model Context Protocol (MCP) gateway, which allows customers to utilize their preferred AI models while ensuring compliance with Workiva's governance and data lineage standards. This flexibility eliminates manual workarounds and enhances the integrity of AI-generated outputs.

5. Conclusion: A New Era in Reporting

The introduction of specialized AI agents and the Workiva Knowledge layer marks a significant advancement in the capabilities available to finance, risk, compliance, and sustainability teams. By automating labor-intensive tasks and embedding intelligence within the reporting process, Workiva is setting a new standard for high-stakes reporting. As the financial landscape continues to evolve, organizations that leverage these innovations will be better positioned to meet stakeholder scrutiny and regulatory demands.

To explore these innovations further, Workiva will host a free webinar titled “Agentic AI for High-Stakes Workflows” on August 25, featuring insights from Workiva executives.
