Unity Software Inc. (NYSE: U), a key player in the game development landscape, has made significant announcements regarding its Board of Directors on February 10, 2026. The company has appointed Bernard Kim, a seasoned veteran in the gaming and technology sectors, as an independent director, effective May 1, 2026. This strategic move is set against the backdrop of transitions within the board, including the departure of two founding members.

1. Bernard Kim Joins the Board

Bernard Kim brings a wealth of experience to Unity, having accumulated over 20 years of leadership in public companies and global consumer platforms. His prior roles include serving as the CEO and board member of Match Group, as well as the President of Publishing at Zynga, where he was instrumental in overseeing global marketing and user acquisition strategies. Kim also has an extensive history with Electronic Arts, where he held the position of Senior Vice President of Mobile Publishing.

In a statement, Jim Whitehurst, Chairman of Unity’s Board of Directors, praised Kim's experience, stating, “Bernard brings deep experience building and scaling global, public companies at the intersection of games and technology. His leadership across mobile gaming, advertising technology, and consumer platforms will be a valuable addition to the Unity Board.”

Kim echoed this sentiment, expressing his admiration for Unity's role in shaping the gaming industry. “Unity plays a foundational role in how interactive experiences are created, distributed, and scaled,” he remarked. “I’ve long admired the company’s impact on the industry, and I’m excited to work with the Board and leadership team as Unity accelerates its mission to democratize game development.”

2. Transitioning Board Members

In conjunction with Kim's appointment, Unity announced the departure of David Helgason and Tomer Bar-Zeev from its Board of Directors, effective February 5, 2026. Both Helgason and Bar-Zeev have been integral to Unity's growth and transformation since its founding.

Matt Bromberg, President and CEO of Unity, expressed gratitude towards the departing members, stating, “David and Tomer have been vital partners as we’ve grown and transformed Unity. They welcomed me into the Company, shared their unique vision as founders, and have provided unfailing support. I’m looking forward to many more years of conversation with both of them.”

Whitehurst also acknowledged the contributions of Helgason and Bar-Zeev, thanking them on behalf of the Board. “We’re grateful for their service and wish them every success in their future endeavors,” he added.

3. Looking Ahead

The appointment of Bernard Kim signals Unity's commitment to enhancing its leadership with experienced professionals who understand the nuances of the gaming and technology sectors. As the company continues to innovate and expand its suite of tools for game development across various platforms—including mobile, PC, console, and extended reality—this new board composition may play a crucial role in shaping its future strategies.

Unity remains focused on its mission of democratizing game development, providing developers with the necessary tools to create, deploy, and grow interactive experiences globally. This leadership transition may very well set the stage for the next chapter in Unity's journey, as it adapts to the ever-evolving landscape of the gaming industry.
