On June 29, 2026, Schneider National, Inc. (NYSE: SNDR), a leading multimodal provider of transportation, intermodal, and logistics services, unveiled a significant leadership transition and structural changes aimed at enhancing customer service and operational efficiency. With a focus on long-term success, the company is set to implement these changes effective July 1, 2026.

1. Leadership Transition

Jim Filter is set to take over as President and Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Mark Rourke, who has held the position since 2019. Filter is a veteran of Schneider, boasting over 27 years of experience with the company. His deep integration with both the leadership team and the customer base positions him as a trusted leader ready to guide Schneider into its next chapter.

“As we look ahead to a new chapter, I am confident the tightly aligned structure we are announcing today will help us remain nimble, maintain close relationships with our customers, and continue building a stronger, more agile Schneider for the future,” said Filter. His comments reflect a strategic approach to empower accountable leaders and engaged teams, aimed at accelerating growth and driving operational efficiency.

2. Structural Changes

The company is reorganizing its leadership structure to better align support services with related service offerings. Two Executive Vice Presidents will assume leadership over core portfolios:

  • Michael Baumgardt has been appointed Executive Vice President of Intermodal & Logistics. He will report directly to Filter. With his tenure at Schneider beginning in 2001, Baumgardt has demonstrated strong leadership across various functions, including customer service, sales, network management, and operations.
  • Steve Wells will join Schneider as Executive Vice President of Truckload, also reporting to Filter. Wells, who previously served as President at Cowan Systems LLC—a subsidiary of Schneider—has over 27 years of experience in the industry. He played a key role in the successful integration of Cowan into Schneider, and his expertise in fleet management and operations is expected to bolster Schneider’s Truckload portfolio.

Promotions Within the Leadership Team

In addition to the new Executive Vice Presidents, Schneider has promoted Angela Prill to Senior Vice President of Intermodal Operations. Prill brings over 15 years of supply chain experience and has a proven track record of building strong teams and delivering results. Previously, she has held various leadership roles within Schneider's Intermodal business.

3. Strategic Vision

The changes come as Schneider's executive team and Board of Directors have thoroughly evaluated the company's structure to ensure long-term success. Mark Rourke will transition to the role of Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, continuing to contribute to Schneider’s strategic direction.

4. Leadership Statements

The newly appointed executives have expressed enthusiasm for their roles and the future of Schneider:

  • Michael Baumgardt remarked, “I’m excited to lead our Intermodal and Logistics teams and continue leveraging their expertise and collaboration to unlock more value for our customers. Schneider Intermodal seamlessly combines rail and intermodal trucking for truck-like reliability.”
  • Steve Wells emphasized the importance of customer-driven solutions, stating, “In this ever-changing supply chain environment, my focus remains on providing customer-driven solutions that move freight forward every day.”
  • Angela Prill committed to empowering her team to enhance efficiency, saying, “I am committed to building and empowering a team that will make doing business easier.”

5. A Legacy of Innovation

With a history spanning over 90 years, Schneider remains a premier multimodal provider of transportation and logistics services. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio that includes Regional and Long-Haul Truckload, Expedited, Dedicated, Bulk, Intermodal, Brokerage, Warehousing, Supply Chain Management, Port Logistics, and Logistics Consulting.

Schneider's innovative digital marketplace, Schneider FreightPower®, is revolutionizing the industry by providing shippers with access to a flexible capacity network, while carriers benefit from quality drop-and-hook freight offerings.

As Schneider National embarks on this new leadership journey, it aims to maintain its commitment to delivering superior customer experiences and investing in innovation—an ethos that has defined the company for nearly a century.
