Nextdoor Foundation Launches Dallas Place at the Table Initiative

In a significant move aimed at enhancing community engagement, the Nextdoor Foundation announced the launch of the “Dallas Place at the Table Initiative” on April 16, 2026. This initiative is a collaborative effort with Neighbor’s Table, a local organization dedicated to fostering connections among residents through shared dining experiences.

The Dallas Place at the Table Initiative will provide ten well-respected grassroots organizations in Dallas with a handcrafted Neighbor’s Table, a long, farmhouse-style table and bench set valued at over $2,750. These tables are designed to serve as gathering places for community members, thereby supporting the ongoing work of the recipient organizations.

“The initiative is more than just a piece of furniture,” stated Kelsey Grady, President of the Nextdoor Foundation. “Each Neighbor’s Table will act as a functional centerpiece for community gatherings—be it shared meals, listening sessions, volunteer meetings, or celebrations. This is about deepening local bonds and reinforcing the fabric of Dallas neighborhoods.”

Neighbor’s Table, which originated as a grassroots effort in Dallas, has grown into a broader movement aimed at encouraging communal meals and fostering a sense of belonging among neighbors. Sarah Harmeyer, the founder of Neighbor’s Table, emphasized the power of shared meals in breaking down barriers and opening up conversations. “A table is one of the simplest but most powerful tools for connection,” she noted.

Through this partnership, the Nextdoor Foundation aims to highlight and celebrate organizations that are already committed to bringing neighbors together. The initiative not only provides physical tables but also serves as a platform for recognizing local efforts that promote connection, belonging, and resilience within communities.

To ensure broad community participation, Dallas residents are encouraged to nominate eligible grassroots organizations through the Nextdoor platform, the Nextdoor Foundation’s website, or at tinyurl.com/DallasPlaceAtTheTable until May 15. The initiative will be actively promoted to engage community members in identifying trusted nonprofits and neighborhood groups making a meaningful impact in Dallas.

The selected organizations will receive public recognition and be celebrated for their commitment to fostering community ties.
