1. Unveiling at CES 2026

On January 5, 2026, Lucid Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: LCID), in collaboration with Nuro, Inc. and Uber Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: UBER), unveiled their production intent vehicles for a revolutionary global robotaxi service at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026. This announcement marks a significant step towards the future of autonomous transportation, showcasing cutting-edge technology and a novel rider experience designed to reshape urban mobility.

2. Features of the Robotaxi

The newly unveiled robotaxi vehicles, built on the foundation of Lucid's all-electric Gravity model, will cater to a variety of passengers with unique features aimed at enhancing the travel experience:

  • Next-Gen Sensor Array: Equipped with high-resolution cameras, solid-state lidar sensors, and radars, the vehicle offers 360-degree environmental perception. This advanced sensor system is seamlessly integrated into the car’s structure, including a low-profile halo mounted on the roof designed to maximize visibility without compromising aesthetics.
  • Halo-Mounted Integrated LEDs: To facilitate easy identification, the vehicles will feature halo-mounted LEDs that display rider initials and provide real-time status updates from pickup to drop-off.
  • Intuitive In-Ride Experience: The interior will allow riders to personalize their journey through interactive screens that control heated seats, climate settings, music, and even request support or a stop.
  • In-Vehicle Visualization: Passengers will be able to monitor the vehicle’s path and see its surroundings in real time. This includes viewing how the robotaxi interacts with pedestrians, traffic signals, and more.
  • Spacious Layout: Designed to accommodate up to six passengers, the robotaxi provides ample luggage space, making it an ideal choice for group travel.
  • High-Performance Computing Power: Utilizing NVIDIA’s DRIVE AGX Thor platform, the vehicle supports real-time AI processing necessary for advanced autonomous driving functions.

3. Autonomous Testing Underway

As part of the development process, autonomous on-road testing commenced in December 2025, led by Nuro in the San Francisco Bay Area. This critical phase aims to validate the capabilities of the robotaxi service, ensuring safety and reliability. Nuro’s established experience in commercial autonomous deployments will play a key role in this testing.

Statements from the Leaders

Dave Ferguson, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Nuro, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating, "By bringing together Nuro's proven level 4 autonomy, Lucid's advanced vehicle architecture, and Uber's global reach, we're building a robotaxi service designed for real-world operations and long-term growth."

Sarfraz Maredia, Global Head of Autonomous Mobility & Delivery at Uber, expressed pride in the partnership, noting that the collaboration aims to create affordable and scalable autonomous rides for the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.

Kay Stepper, Vice President of ADAS and Autonomous at Lucid, highlighted the sustainability aspect of the initiative, stating, "Our robotaxi program with Uber and Nuro is a key part of how Lucid is leveraging its technology to create a more sustainable future of mobility that is widely accessible."

4. Looking Ahead: Production and Launch

Pending final validation, the production of the robotaxi is expected to commence later this year at Lucid's Arizona factory. The vehicle will be on public display for CES attendees at NVIDIA's showcase at the Fontainebleau Hotel from January 5 to January 8, 2026.

This collaborative effort among Lucid, Nuro, and Uber marks a pivotal moment in the journey towards a new era of transportation. With their combined expertise, the companies are poised to set the stage for a transformative shift in how urban mobility is approached, focusing on sustainability, safety, and user experience.
