EVgo Launches First Fast Charging Stations Under Toyota's "Empact" Vision

On March 11, 2025, EVgo Inc. (NASDAQ: EVGO), a leading provider of public fast charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs), announced the launch of its first DC fast charging stations in Baldwin Park and Sacramento, California. These stations are part of Toyota Motor North America’s “Empact” vision, which aims to enhance access to charging infrastructure in underserved communities. The new co-branded stations, owned and operated by EVgo, are equipped with cutting-edge 350kW fast chargers and can accommodate up to eight vehicles simultaneously.

Scott Levitan, Executive Vice President of Growth at EVgo, emphasized the importance of charging availability as automakers expand their electric vehicle offerings. "As automakers offer more electric vehicle choices, EVgo will continue deploying fast chargers for current and prospective EV drivers," he stated. Toyota’s "Empact" vision, initially announced in April 2023, seeks to provide equitable access to electrified vehicle transport, particularly in underserved communities. The initiative focuses on three core areas: enhancing access to charging infrastructure, offering affordable mobility solutions, and reducing carbon emissions. The newly inaugurated charging stations aim to serve the local communities by providing convenient access to EV charging.

James George, General Manager of EV Charging Solutions at Toyota Motor North America, highlighted the significance of these new stations for all battery EV drivers, including those with Toyota and Lexus battery electric vehicles (BEVs). "We aim to ensure that customers find the newly opened stations both convenient and efficient for their charging needs," he remarked.

The newly opened stations are strategically located in amenity-rich areas, providing easy access to grocery stores, restaurants, shopping malls, and other local attractions. This thoughtful placement is designed to enhance the overall charging experience for users, making it more convenient for them to charge their vehicles while engaging in daily activities.

In a bid to further encourage EV adoption, EVgo has extended its charging program with Toyota, offering one year of complimentary charging for drivers who purchase or lease the 2025 Toyota bZ4X battery EV compact crossover SUV. This initiative not only supports the transition to electric vehicles but also incentivizes new customers to explore the benefits of driving electric.

The opening of these fast charging stations has been met with enthusiasm from local government officials. State Senator Angelique Ashby of Sacramento praised the initiative as a critical infrastructure project that will bolster the use of clean energy transportation in the region. "This initiative is a win for our environment and for the future of sustainable mobility in Sacramento," she stated.

Similarly, State Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio of Baldwin Park expressed excitement about the new infrastructure, highlighting its positive impact on air quality and the convenience it brings to residents and visitors alike.
