  • One-Time Connectivity Credit: Customers can receive a one-time credit of $120 per kilowatt when their energy storage system meets the program's connection requirements. Additionally, those whose systems are charged using renewable energy may qualify for an extra $30 credit per kilowatt.
  • Monthly Capacity Credit: Participants earn a monthly credit of $3.50 per enrolled kilowatt, adjusted for verified system losses.
  • Energy Curtailment Credit: Customers earn $0.10 per kilowatt-hour for energy used during curtailment events each billing cycle.

These combined incentives provide participating customers with predictable financial returns for making stored energy available during critical periods of demand.

4. Flexibility and Participation

By enrolling in the PowerShare Storage program, customers allow Duke Energy to temporarily draw from their storage systems between 30 and 36 times a year, with each event lasting no longer than four hours. Importantly, customers retain flexibility within the program, with the option to opt out of up to four events each year—two of which can occur during winter months—while still remaining eligible for bill credits.

The program is set to commence operations in South Carolina in August 2026, and Duke Energy encourages interested nonresidential customers to reach out to their utility account representatives for more information.
