AMD Unveils £2 Billion Commitment to Accelerate AI Innovation in the UK

Additionally, AMD is joining forces with Oriole Networks to support the UK's Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) Scaling Inference Lab. This initiative will tackle critical AI infrastructure bottlenecks by integrating Oriole's PRISM photonic networking technology with AMD's Instinct GPUs and EPYC processors, aiming to enhance performance and energy efficiency.

In collaboration with Dell Technologies, AMD is also contributing to the enhancement of the UK's national AI supercomputing capacity. This includes support for the University of Cambridge's new Zenith AI supercomputer and the Sunrise fusion AI system, both of which leverage AMD technology.

Zenith, funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), is set to become a significant AI-for-science platform. Meanwhile, Sunrise, which is under construction, is focused on fusion research and is part of a longstanding partnership between UKAEA and the University of Cambridge.
