IonQ Partners with CCRM to Revolutionize Advanced Therapeutics

The newly formed partnership is set to invest in CCRM's innovative quantum-biotech initiatives, positioning IonQ as the core technological partner across CCRM’s extensive global network of advanced therapy hubs. With over 100,000 square feet of good manufacturing practice (GMP) facilities and a workforce of more than 300 scientific experts, CCRM stands as a leader in the advancement of regenerative medicine. The organization was established in Toronto, Canada, in 2011, with a mission to deliver effective treatments and potential cures for some of the most debilitating chronic diseases.

Niccolo de Masi, Chairman and CEO of IonQ, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "IonQ’s quantum technologies are poised to reshape industries, and health care is one of the most exciting frontiers." He emphasized that the collaboration with CCRM and its global partners would focus on identifying, testing, and deploying breakthrough applications designed to enhance therapeutic development, biomanufacturing, and patient delivery systems.

Michael May, President and CEO of CCRM, echoed this sentiment, highlighting that the partnership uniquely positions both entities to address challenges previously deemed insurmountable. "Just as CCRM focused on biomanufacturing 15 years ago, this frontier-of-science collaboration will help accelerate the discovery and application of advanced therapies," he stated.

The collaboration will initially target critical areas including bioprocess optimization, disease-modeling workflows, and quantum-enhanced simulation to facilitate the design and manufacturing of advanced therapies. The first projects emanating from this partnership are slated to launch in Canada and Sweden in 2026, showcasing a commitment to global collaboration in health care innovation.

Fredrik Wessberg, CEO of CCRM Nordic, noted the alignment of priorities between Canada and Sweden in advancing therapies and quantum computing. He remarked, "This partnership will help demonstrate the value of the CCRM network of hubs, and the need for global collaboration to deliver complex health care modalities to patients globally."

This announcement builds upon IonQ's recent initiatives, including a collaboration with AstraZeneca to create a new quantum application development center in Sweden, and the acquisition of Oxford Ionics to expand R&D teams. Earlier this year, IonQ also entered into a long-term partnership with Einride in Stockholm and established its first European Innovation Center at QuantumBasel in Switzerland.

IonQ's strategy reflects a robust commitment to advancing the capabilities of quantum computing, aiming to deliver the world's most powerful quantum computers with a target of 2 million qubits by 2030. The company has already set a world record in quantum computing performance with a remarkable 99.99% two-qubit gate fidelity achieved in 2025.
