Globalstar, Inc. (Nasdaq: GSAT) announced its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2025, showcasing a solid performance amid strategic advancements and a challenging global trade environment. The company reported a revenue increase of 6%, reaching $60.0 million, despite a net loss of $17.3 million primarily driven by non-cash items.

1. Key Financial Highlights

Chief Financial Officer Rebecca Clary commented, “Our first quarter results are in-line with our expectations,” noting a revenue boost attributed to higher service revenue, which grew by $3.6 million or 7% compared to the same period last year. Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter stood at $30.4 million, reflecting an improvement from $29.6 million in Q1 2024 and maintaining a margin of 51%.

Revenue Breakdown

  • Service Revenue: Total service revenue was $57.1 million, with the bulk coming from wholesale capacity services. This represents a significant growth with contributions from expanded services initiated in March 2024.
  • Subscriber Equipment Sales: Revenue from subscriber equipment sales was $3.0 million, slightly down from $3.015 million in the previous year.

The company anticipates continued growth in Commercial IoT service revenue, which increased by 2% due to a 4% rise in average subscribers. However, the decline in Duplex and SPOT service revenue due to subscriber churn was noted as an offset.

2. Operational Advancements

CEO Dr. Paul E. Jacobs expressed satisfaction with the company’s strategic progress, particularly the successful launch of a two-way satellite IoT solution, marking a significant shift from traditional one-way tracking. This advancement positions Globalstar well in high-growth markets such as fleet tracking and precision agriculture.

Leadership Enhancements

To bolster growth, Globalstar appointed two industry veterans:

  • Dr. Tamer Kadous as VP & GM of Terrestrial Spectrum and Network Solutions.
  • Daaman Hejmadi as VP & GM of Wholesale Satellite Capacity.

Both leaders bring extensive experience in wireless communications and engineering, aiming to enhance Globalstar's market position.

New Operations Facility

In March, Globalstar opened a state-of-the-art Satellite Operations Control Center in Covington, Louisiana, which aims to improve satellite fleet management and network performance. This facility reflects the company's commitment to innovation and local economic growth.

3. Financial Review

Loss from Operations

The loss from operations reached $8.5 million, an increase from $4.7 million in the previous year, driven mainly by higher operating expenses, including costs from the Support Services Agreement with XCOM Labs and increased product development expenditures.

Net Loss and Adjusted EBITDA

Globalstar’s net loss for the quarter was $17.3 million, compared to $13.2 million in Q1 2024, primarily due to increased operational costs and non-cash interest expenses. However, adjusted EBITDA increased to $30.4 million, indicating a resilient operational performance despite the challenges.

Liquidity Position

As of March 31, 2025, Globalstar reported cash and cash equivalents of $241.4 million, a decrease from $391.2 million at the end of the previous year. This change was largely attributed to significant capital expenditures of $190.6 million related to network upgrades.

4. Financial Outlook

Globalstar maintains its financial guidance for 2025, projecting total revenue between $260 million and $285 million and an adjusted EBITDA margin of approximately 50%. The company expresses confidence that any impacts from tariffs will be minimal.

5. Conclusion

Globalstar's first-quarter results reflect a balanced approach to growth and operational efficiency, positioning the company for success in the rapidly evolving satellite communication market. With strategic leadership appointments and innovative product launches, Globalstar aims to deepen its market presence and enhance shareholder value throughout 2025 and beyond.

For further insights, Globalstar will host a conference call at 5:00 p.m. ET on May 8, 2025, to discuss these results in greater detail.
