Dell Technologies Enhances Cybersecurity for a Quantum and AI-Driven Future

The rapid evolution of AI is creating vast amounts of valuable data, while simultaneously providing cybercriminals with new methods to exploit this information. The integration of quantum computing further complicates the landscape, as it has the potential to undermine current encryption technologies critical for data protection and software integrity verification. Recognizing these converging threats, Dell is responding with a multi-layered defense approach across its technology stack—from personal computers to data centers.

To address the vulnerabilities posed by quantum computing, Dell is introducing quantum-ready security features in its commercial PCs. These enhancements are focused on reinforcing the deepest firmware layers, thus providing a robust security foundation.

The upgraded security features specifically target the embedded controller (EC), which is vital for hardware security. By verifying firmware updates against signatures that are resistant to future quantum-enabled attacks, Dell is minimizing supply chain risks and ensuring only legitimate updates are accepted.

Dell’s enhanced BIOS Verification capability, aligned with post-quantum standards, serves as an additional layer of protection. This feature checks the BIOS against a trusted reference securely stored in Dell's cloud. Any discrepancies trigger alerts, allowing for immediate investigation and response.

According to Dell's Cyber Resilience Insights research, only 40% of organizations can effectively contain and recover from cyber incidents with minimal impact. In response, Dell is enhancing its PowerProtect cyber resilience portfolio to empower organizations to detect threats sooner and recover more efficiently.

The updated PowerProtect Data Manager now features an AI-powered assistant that guides users through critical recovery tasks, detects ransomware risks faster, and offers a unified dashboard for managing distributed systems. The PowerProtect Data Domain appliance has also been upgraded, promising up to double the speed for backups and 46% faster data restores, ensuring swift operational continuity after incidents.

Recognizing that traditional endpoint security often overlooks AI workloads, Dell is extending its Managed Detection and Response (MDR) services to environments hosting unstructured data and AI workloads. This strategic move aims to close visibility gaps that cyber attackers frequently exploit.

The expanded Dell MDR service now includes support for Dell PowerScale, enhancing organizations' ability to detect threats in their AI data storage platforms. This service, backed by Dell's cybersecurity analysts, automates response actions, optimizing security operations.

Dell will also introduce an EDR-only option, which focuses on monitoring, investigating, and responding to endpoint threats using advanced detection methods. This service will provide unique visibility into BIOS verification results, enabling proactive alerts if any deviations from trusted baselines are detected.

John Roese, Dell Technologies’ global CTO and chief AI officer, emphasized the urgency of these advancements: "Quantum computing will break the encryption and digital signatures protecting data today, while agentic AI raises the stakes by increasing the value of data and autonomously shares it across teams and organizations." Roese highlighted that Dell has been preparing for these shifts for nearly a decade through investments in post-quantum cryptography and cyber resilience.

Javier González Belinchón, director of Corporate Infrastructure & Operations at Palladium Hotel Group, praised the impact of PowerProtect Data Manager on their operations, noting the significant reduction in business disruptions and data loss risk.

Fernando Montenegro, vice president and practice lead at Futurum, remarked on the necessity of Dell's comprehensive cyber resilience strategy, which aims to deepen security visibility and enhance recovery capabilities in the face of increasing AI adoption.
