1. Record Revenue Growth and Improved Profitability

Ambarella, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMBA), an edge AI semiconductor company, unveiled its financial performance for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ending January 31, 2025, showing remarkable growth and resilience despite previous losses. The results highlight a strategic shift towards edge AI technologies, which now constitute a significant portion of the company's revenue.

Q4 Revenue Soars

In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025, Ambarella reported revenue of $84.0 million, marking an impressive 62.8% increase from $51.6 million in the same quarter of fiscal 2024. The annual revenue for fiscal year 2025 reached $284.9 million, reflecting a 25.8% growth compared to $226.5 million the previous year. This substantial growth underscores the increasing demand for edge AI solutions, which are becoming integral to various applications including video security and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Margins and Losses

The company's gross margin under U.S. GAAP for Q4 2025 was stable at 60.0%, slightly up from 59.8% in Q4 2024. For the fiscal year, the GAAP gross margin stood at 60.5%, a minor increase from 60.4% the previous year. Despite these improvements, Ambarella reported a GAAP net loss of $20.2 million for the fourth quarter, translating to a loss of $0.48 per diluted ordinary share. This is a noteworthy reduction from a net loss of $60.6 million or $1.50 per diluted ordinary share in Q4 2024.

For the entire fiscal year, the GAAP net loss totaled $117.1 million, or $2.84 per diluted ordinary share, a significant decrease from the $169.4 million loss ($4.25 per diluted share) recorded in fiscal 2024.

Non-GAAP Performance

Ambarella also provided non-GAAP financial results, which offer a clearer picture of the company's operational performance. The non-GAAP gross margin for Q4 2025 was reported at 62.0%, slightly down from 62.5% in Q4 2024. The non-GAAP net profit for the quarter was $4.8 million, or earnings of $0.11 per diluted ordinary share, a stark contrast to a non-GAAP net loss of $9.8 million in the same quarter last year. For the fiscal year, the non-GAAP net loss was reduced to $6.8 million ($0.16 per diluted share), compared to a loss of $33.1 million in fiscal 2024.

Solid Cash Position

As of January 31, 2025, Ambarella had a robust cash position with total cash, cash equivalents, and marketable debt securities amounting to $250.3 million, up from $226.5 million at the end of the previous quarter and $219.9 million year-over-year. This healthy liquidity provides the company with the flexibility to invest in growth initiatives and navigate potential market challenges.

2. Outlook for Fiscal Year 2026

Looking ahead, Ambarella has set optimistic guidance for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026, projecting revenue between $81.0 million and $87.0 million. The company anticipates a non-GAAP gross margin in the range of 61.0% to 62.5%, while non-GAAP operating expenses are expected to be between $50.0 million and $53.0 million.

Fermi Wang, President and CEO of Ambarella, expressed confidence in the company’s trajectory, stating, “We finished fiscal 2025 with strong results and are starting the new year with positive momentum.” He noted that over 70% of total revenue now comes from edge AI products, and highlighted the successful ramp-up of the company’s next-generation 5nm products, including the CV5 and CV7 families.

Conclusion

Ambarella's fiscal year 2025 results reflect a significant turnaround, driven by strategic investments in edge AI technology and operational efficiencies. With a strong cash position and optimistic guidance for the upcoming quarter, the company seems well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for AI-driven solutions in various industries.
